Ye Live in Mexico City

Ye’s live in Mexico City is streaming for free on Vix Friday, Jan 30, and Saturday, Jan 31.  The streaming experience is amazing and creative, and that’s because of the strategic use of different camera views, the attention to detail in close-ups, and the context setting of the wide shots. Kanye is walking on the moon! He’s wearing moon space boots and everything. It only took me a few seconds to understand what I was looking at – the intention is very clear and well thought-out. The stage is a white-ish circle, rippled, with craters and smoking, like the moon. A cool close-up shows Kanye playing with shadows – holding his hands up to create the figure of Christ the Redeemer. Then it turned into two shadows of him looking some-what alien like, followed by a single, tall, powerful shadow of his figure. Those shadow figures, the play with his shadow, made me think – and I remembered the conspiracy theories about the moon landing pictures being fake because of how the shadows appear.

Essentially, the man is the only one on this huge, round stage. He’s got the music track behind him, so sometimes you’re just hearing the track play. Live, I’m sure that’s fabulous because you’re also buzzing with the energy in the room. Therefore, when you don’t receive that from streaming, the investment in camera/streaming visuals is necessary.

A wide shot from the top of the stadium shows just how big it is. The people watching from the nosebleeds are up high and can barely see the man on stage. Ye (Kanye West) is performing at the Monumental Plaza de Toros “La Mexico” in Mexico City. This is a 41,262-seat facility that is monumental for bullfighting, but many boxing matches have been held there, as well as other sports and entertainment events.

This is Kanye West’s first concert in Mexico in 18 years and part of his “Vultures” tour. Songs played include Niggas in Paris, Bound 2, Say You Will from the album: 808s & Heartbreak, released in 2008, as well as others from his discography.

North West pulled up to the stage with her dad! The two shared the stage and sand. Only One! The song that Kanye wrote for his daughter, and we all saw him shoot the video shoot with his baby girl on an episode of KeepingUpp with the Kardashians! When Kanye and Kimberly were still in love. Now, North West is not the most naturally talented singer. I’m sure she will get better with age and practice, thanks to the resources her family can provide, so that she’s a well-trained singer and performer. But right now, with Ye Live in Mexico City, La Norteña sounds a little pitchy.

That did not stop your bestie, Miss Westie! She went on to perform her song Miss Westie. By perform, I mean spit a few bars and then walk to the track, just like her daddy. She looks cute in her long, blue hair. Miss Westie is a North West and Kanye West collab. The next song played, I had never heard. The song is BOMB by ¥$, Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign, North West & Chicago West. It’s a cute song! I really like North’s look, and her lyrics in this were cute! I ike Verse 2: Chicago West.
(It’s Chicago)
It’s Chicago, you know I’m the one
I like to have fun
I like to go to the beach
I like the sun

The song is part of the Vultures 2 album. And I’m realizing North West got songs! She’s a young, rising artist. I love that she is on stage with her dad, seizing the moment.

There was a lull after North West. Good time for viewers to grab a snack.

Then it picked up again with Kanye singing PREACHER MAN from his Bully album release in 2025.

I go where they never can

I float, I don’t ever land

Ye moved on to play more songs from the album Bully, like “LAST BREATH“, which is a Spanish-language mix with catchy phrases like “Noche tras Noche” and “Way too much tequila, Clase Azul.”

According to multiple sources, Kanye West’s albumb bully isn’t out yet as od Jan 30, 2026. Ye Live in Mexico City is performing songs from his unreleased album Bully, a little taste of what’s to come. Sources say the album may be released in May 2026.

While playing Father Stretch My Hands, another cool effect. A blown-up, projected image of Ye appears on the moon-like stage. Followed up by the iconic song Famous, which we all saw the release party for on KUWTK – both songs from the Life of Pablo album.

College Dropout songs followed up like All Falls Down, Jesus Walks, and Through the Wire. Ye Live in Concert started with his most recent work and worked its way back through the discography.

Another cool effect is the ring of fire that outlines the perimeter of a blacked-out stage, looking like a solar eclipse, which occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun. I dig the moon space motif of Ye Live in Mexico City. Ye is wearing an all-white outfit (hoodie, white-washed jeans, with his black moon shoes or spae shows, and a pair of black shades. It’s giving an astronaut.

Next, Ye sang Homecoming, giving a shoutout to Chi city, Chi city. Followed up Flashing Lights from his 2007 albumn Gaduation. During this song, the camera gives viewers a wide shot of the stadium. Up until then, the view was sticking to close-ups. The wide-shot sets the stage. It gives you the perspective that Kanye is performing on the moon, and the crowd surrounds him 360 degrees, holding their phone lights up, looking like stars in the sky.

Ye asks the crowd, “are yall ready to go home?” and plays what’s likely his last song, All Of The Lights. A classic. Stronger plays next. Viewers on Vix are seeing a camera effect that looks like an old-time TV live stream of Ye on Stage, A cursor at the center of the screen, and a black outline around the screen image – a reference to the historic footage of the man on the moon.

Ghost Town, crowd singing the lyrics.. crowd cheers, and Ye teasing one last song. It’s Runaway. Vix viewes see a still view of the Mexico City skyline, fireworks are shooting straight up into the sky, like shooting stars or comets.

The show is artistic, there’s no denying that. I’m impressed by the attention to detail in the imagery for viewers streaming Ye Lie From Mexico City on Vix. He created a visual art piece with the cameras, the stage, the lighting, and the music, all of the great songs that we all know from Kanye West. It’s good to see him giving the stage to the new generation, North West. Art is to be celebrated. While Kanye West is controversial in the United States, the artist made a place for himself on the international stage. And yet his partnership with Vix is an interesting one that brought this performance to my household, my phone screen. Here I was, getting on Vix to watch an episode of Rubi. And I ended my night watching Ye Live in Mexico City, writing about it, and listening to him in the background as I end my night, painting my nails in my bedroom.

Ye ends the night singing, “If you love somebody tonight, hold on so tight” to the instrumental of Runaway. And a shout out to his daughter, “Make some noise for North West, y’all,” and calling his daughter back on stage. The two walk side by side across the stage and off into the crowd briefly, before going backstage. The orchestral track holds steady the final note of Runaway. Giving drama, giving classical, giving art.

The stream is still going and pulling audio of the crowd cheering,

“Kanye es mexicano”

“ole ole ole kanye, kanye”

“Otra! Otra! Otra!”

My gente always want more at a concert! It’s tradition. But Kanye is not Mexican; he doesn’t play that game. Not tonight. The stage, the stadium go dark, and only the city lights appear under a dark sky.
